Can a machine part be 3D printed?

Yes, provided it fits within SLS material and tolerance. Plastic machine parts (gears, brackets, cable management, housings, guides, air ducts) we print daily for production machines, robotics, packaging machines and agricultural machinery. Metal parts or parts larger than ~500 mm need other technology. On the fence? Send us the part or a drawing, we advise the best route.

Which machine parts SLS can handle

Most common at our shop:

  • Gears (in PA11 or Carbon LW for stiffness)
  • Bearing housings and shaft holders
  • Cable chain elements
  • Nozzle and guide parts for packaging machines
  • Robot end effectors and grippers
  • Sensor housings
  • Service hatches and covers
  • Air ducts with complex geometry

For food-processing machines: PA12 Blue MD (FDA + EC1935/2004 + metal-detectable). For heavily loaded gears or racks: PA11 toughness combines well with SLS precision.

When SLS does not work for machine parts

Metals. No SLS powder in our portfolio. For steel or aluminium: refer to DMLS partners or CNC milling.

Very large parts (>500 mm). Build volume limit. Split the part or use another process.

Continuous >100 °C operating temperature. Choose fibre-reinforced (PA802CF, HDT 179 °C) or consider PEEK (not in our portfolio).

Direct rolling load (e.g. bearing inner ring on heavy weight) – Requires metal.

On the fence? Send your case, we give honest advice.

Path from original to SLS print

Original CAD available? Upload and instant quote.

Only physical part? Photograph with dimensions or scan (we help with scan locations).

Complex geometry without CAD? Reverse engineering by our engineers into production-ready STEP. Reckon 0.5-2 working days for CAD + standard print time.

Recurring replacements (e.g. you want part number X monthly)? One-time CAD validation, then instant reorder without re-evaluation.
