How much does a custom 3D print cost?

The price of a custom 3D print depends on the material, the part volume and the chosen finishing. SLS prints start at around €25 per part for small components in PA12. You get an instant price 24/7 by uploading a STEP or STL file to our online quote tool.

How is the price of a 3D print determined?

Four factors drive the price of an SLS 3D print: part volume, the build space the part occupies, the chosen material and the desired finishing. Volume counts twice — a larger part needs more powder and displaces other parts in the same build.

Material choice often makes more difference than customers expect. PA12 (PA2200) is the standard and most economical option. PA 950 HD delivers structurally black parts with up to 35% lower cost-per-part for production runs. Reinforced materials like PA802CF and Carbon LW are 2-3x more expensive per kilo, but deliver higher strength (89 MPa and 56 MPa respectively) which often allows thinner designs.

Finishing — dyeing, polishing, sealing, tapping threads — adds up per step. For most prototypes and functional parts a light depowdering and bead-blast is enough, and is included as standard.

How does the instant quote work?

Our online quote tool calculates the price from your STEP or STL file within seconds. Upload the file, pick a material and quantity, and see the price and lead time immediately. No quote process, no waiting, no account manager required.

The tool supports STEP, STL, 3MF, IGES and OBJ up to 200 MB. For larger uploads or for parts that need machining (insert threads, hubs, assembly) we send the price within one working day, manually.

For repeat orders or large series we set up fixed pricing agreements — contact an engineer for that. For one-off requests the instant quote almost always provides the best rate.

How do you keep 3D printing costs low?

The biggest savings come from design choices. Shelling solid volumes immediately saves 30-60% on material and build cost. A wall thickness of 1.2 mm is enough for most functional parts in PA12 and can be printed without support — an advantage FDM does not share.

Bundle multiple parts in one order. An SLS build is a time block — whether it processes one part or thirty, the oven heats up once and cools down once. The fuller the build, the better the price per part.

For runs over 50 parts: ask for a PA 950 HD comparison. This material uses 80% recycled powder and delivers 35% lower cost-per-part without compromising on strength (47 MPa tensile). For metal-detectable or food-safe applications, compare PA12 Blue MD (49 MPa, EC1935/2004 and FDA).
