What is PA 802-CF CN?
PA 802-CF CN is a carbon fiber reinforced Nylon 11 (Polyamide 11) developed by ALM, an EOS company. It combines the bio-based foundation and toughness of PA11 with carbon fiber reinforcement for the highest stiffness and temperature resistance in our SLS portfolio.
The "CN" stands for Carbon Neutral: the entire production chain of this material is climate-neutral certified by ALM. Combined with the bio-based PA11 matrix, this is the most sustainable high-performance material we offer.
When to choose PA 802-CF?
Choose PA 802-CF when both temperature resistance and structural strength are required. With an HDT of 179°C (at 1.82 MPa) and a tensile strength of 70 MPa (XY direction), PA 802-CF surpasses all other SLS polymers in our portfolio on thermomechanical performance.
Typical decision moments: the part is exposed to ambient temperatures above 80°C, the combination of stiffness and toughness is required (elongation 11% vs 3% for Carbon LW), or ESG targets call for a sustainable alternative.
Metal replacement
PA 802-CF CN replaces metal parts in thermally loaded environments where aluminium is not ideal due to weight, complexity, or lead time. With an E-modulus of 6388 MPa (XY), an HDT of 179°C, and a density of only 1.11 g/cm³, PA 802-CF offers a unique combination of stiffness, temperature resistance, and lightweight.
Where Carbon LW limits metal replacement to ambient temperatures below 80°C, PA 802-CF functions reliably at process temperatures up to 170°C. This opens metal replacement in applications that previously exclusively required aluminium or steel.
Sustainable and performance-driven
PA 802-CF CN is the only material in our portfolio that is carbon neutral certified. ALM compensates the CO2 emissions of the complete production chain, from raw material extraction to powder delivery.
The bio-based PA11 matrix is produced from castor oil (renewable). For companies with ESG targets, PA 802-CF CN offers the highest mechanical performance with the lowest ecological impact.
Typical applications
Under-the-hood automotive components continuously exposed to engine heat up to 170°C.
Motorsport and racing: lightweight, stiff, and temperature resistant. Ideal for aerodynamic aids and heat shields.
Metal replacement in machinery: brackets, mounting plates, and structural components that must remain stable at high temperatures.
Wind tunnel models that must remain dimensionally stable during heating from air friction.

Veelgestelde vragen over PA 802-CF CN
What is the difference between PA 802-CF and Carbon LW?
PA 802-CF uses a PA11 base (bio-based) with carbon fiber reinforcement; Carbon LW a PA base with carbon and glass fiber reinforcement. PA 802-CF has significantly higher E-modulus (6388 vs 3816 MPa) and much higher temperature resistance (179°C vs ~85°C HDT). PA 802-CF is the choice for high-temperature and high-strength applications.
Why does strength differ between XY and Z direction?
In SLS, material is built layer by layer. Carbon fibers orient primarily in the XY plane. Therefore, strength in XY direction (70 MPa) is higher than in Z direction (41 MPa). Our engineering team optimizes build orientation so the XY direction aligns with the primary load direction of your part.
Is PA 802-CF suitable for high temperatures?
Yes. With an HDT of 179°C (at 1.82 MPa), PA 802-CF withstands ambient temperatures that standard SLS materials cannot handle. Suitable for under-the-hood, motorsport, and industrial applications with process temperatures up to 170°C.
What does Carbon Neutral mean?
The production of PA 802-CF CN is climate-neutral certified by ALM (an EOS company). The CO2 emissions of the complete production chain are compensated. Combined with the bio-based PA11 matrix, this offers a sustainable material with top performance.
Can PA 802-CF replace metal?
In thermally loaded environments where aluminium is not ideal due to weight, complexity, or lead time, PA 802-CF offers an alternative. The combination of high E-modulus (6388 MPa XY), high HDT (179°C), and low density (1.11 g/cm³) makes metal replacement feasible in diverse applications.
Kan PA 802-CF metaal vervangen?
In thermisch belaste omgevingen waar aluminium vanwege gewicht, complexiteit of doorlooptijd niet ideaal is, biedt PA 802-CF een alternatief. De combinatie van hoge E-modulus (6388 MPa XY), hoge HDT (179°C) en lage dichtheid (1.11 g/cm³) maakt metaalvervanging haalbaar in diverse toepassingen.

Why manufacturers choose Parts on Demand
Industrial SLS 3D printing at production scale. 11 machines. 6 engineering-grade materials. One dedicated team.
Production capacity, not prototyping
Our fleet of 3x EOS P500 dual-laser and 7x EOS P396 systems runs 24/7 for series production. That means consistent mechanical properties from batch 1 to batch 1,000. When you need 5 parts or 50,000, the process and quality are identical.
Co-engineering included
Every project is reviewed by our in-house application engineering team before production. We optimize wall thickness, orientation, and geometry for SLS (DfAM), catching issues that would cause rejects. Competitors send your file straight to a printer. We make sure it works first.
6 materials, each with a purpose
PA12 for general-purpose parts (48 MPa tensile strength). PA 950 HD for structural black parts at reduced cost (44 MPa, 80% powder reuse). Carbon LW for metal replacement at 40% less weight. PA802CF for maximum stiffness. PA11 for chemical resistance. TPU for flexible, rubber-like applications.
