What makes up the price of an SLS 3D-printed part?

Four line items shape the price. Material (40-60% of the price, depending on polymer). Machine time (share of build time). Finishing (de-powdering and blasting standard, dye or polish optional). Order overhead. A small PA12 part starts around €25. Volume and build bundling drive per-piece cost down significantly.

The four cost items

Material. How much powder your part displaces. Volume x density x material price. PA12 is the cheapest standard. Carbon LW and PA802CF are 2-3x higher per kilo.

Machine time. Your part takes up build height. Taller part = more sinter time. Non-linear, because other parts co-build in the same job.

Finishing. De-powdering and bead blasting are standard. Dye, seal, machining and polish are optional.

Order overhead. Admin, packaging, per-batch tracing. Fixed costs that get spread across the order.

What drives your price up or down

Volume is the biggest lever. A solid 200 cm³ part pays material for 200 cm³. The same part shelled to 2 mm walls can drop to 40-60 cm³. Directly 60-70% material savings.

Material choice also matters. PA 950 HD delivers 35% lower per-piece cost than PA12 with no strength compromise (47 MPa), because it allows 80% recycled powder. Worth considering for larger runs.
