When should you choose PA12?

Choose PA12 (PA2200) for most industrial applications without specific requirements. 45 MPa tensile, isotropic, good dimensional stability, smooth surface. Suits prototypes, jigs, brackets, housings and end-use parts. Our default for 80% of customers. Only step away when a specific need (toughness, stiffness, food safe) demands it.

Why PA12 is the standard

PA12 is the most-used SLS material in the world. Our machines are dialled in on it, process parameters refined, mechanical properties predictable.

For 80% of industrial applications (cable management, brackets, housings, ducting, manifolds, prototype functions) PA12 is both functionally and economically the logical pick. Isotropic 45 MPa, dimensional stability within ±0.1-0.3 mm, smooth surface (after standard blasting) and a broad variant portfolio.

When PA12 is your best choice

Choose PA12 when your part has general industrial function without extreme toughness or stiffness demands. Price-conscious (PA12 is the cheapest nylon). Speed needed (process parameters are optimal, 3 working days realistic). Or a prototype that wants the later run in the same material.

For parts that must simply work without caveat, PA12 is the safe, predictable choice.

When PA12 is not your best choice

Repeated flex (snap-fits, hinges, flex elements) -> PA11 is tougher (31% vs 18%).

Parts that must not deflect -> Carbon LW, 2x stiffer.

Maximum tensile in weight-critical parts -> PA802CF, 89 MPa.

Through-and-through black or large runs at lower cost -> PA 950 HD.

Food contact or metal detection -> PA12 Blue MD, FDA + EC1935/2004.

Flexible or rubber-like -> TPU 1301.
